I read a famous quote on Tumblr awhile back about ‘almost’ being the saddest word there will ever be.
How we almost made it and almost became forever. How we almost loved each other until the last star died out. How we almost became the best parts of my poetry and we almost stayed together after all of this time.
Fuck that.
The saddest word?
Always.
I’ll always love the way you were gentle even when I forgot how to be delicate. How you always showed me the coolest thing and brought out the best personality from deep within my soul. I’ll always remember how you called past 11 pm because the thunder storms kept you up and you can’t handle sleeping alone with loud noises near your head. I always knew you would be the one to break me. I always screamed before I whispered into your ears. Forever and always, a load of shit. I’ll never be happy enough or sad enough to deal with how you always knew the right words to say I was just like my father. We’ll always be something that was close to being complete. I always loved how you indirectly made me pick up the pen. The smell of your natural, earthy and rosy breath will always be near spring. How I always think about you at night. How sad I’ll always be when I think about you. When we always laughed at other people for how they were instead of looking within our own shallow relationship and how broken we will always be. How we’ll always be rejected by your mother. How I’ll always miss your 17 year old you vs the you now. How you always made me feel like shit and amazing at the same time. Always on my mind during the day even if I’m not on yours. Always a story without an ending and not the cliffhanger left open for interpretation. How you always stopped writing back. How I always waited and waited, and then you picked up that trait. How I’ll always compare you to the sun and the sea. I’ll always be someone who wasn’t good enough. I’ll always be the guy you call when he isn’t around. I’ll always be just another one of your hopeless smiles. How I’ll always be the ex who treated you the worst. I’ll always be your always when it comes to never again.
But you know what?
I’ll always love you even if we weren’t meant to be, even if you say it a million times.
“I’m the one, but not the one right now.”
I’ll always be that sentence to you.
Almost isn’t the saddest word,
always is because without always
there won’t be those almost moments.I’ll always love you even if we almost destroyed ourselves by doing so.
We’ll always remember
how much we loved.
The tears we shared,
the love we made
and the tenderness
strapped to gentleness
lost before we uttered
that cruel, cruel word.Always.
I will always miss you.
I will always want to be with you.
I will always wait for you.
I will always love you.Because it’s on our mind every second of every day, because some of us dwell in the past even if the future calls us, because some of us still stargaze with them in our heads even after they let go, because some of us still miss that kiss or that smile, because some of our best memories will always be home.
That’s why always is the saddest word.
Because it’ll always be just that.
Something you’ll always think about,
but wouldn’t act upon it.
Something you’ll always cherish,
but won’t miss nearly as often.
Something you’ll always hold your breath for even if it slowly kills you.Why couldn’t you be better than someone I’ll always love?
Maybe that’s when almost comes into play. You almost became that person.
